Light Date And Nut Bread - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 1/2 c. boiling water
    1 c. chopped pitted dates
    3/4 c. white sugar
    1 egg, beaten
    1 c. nuts
    1 tsp. vanilla
    2 1/4 c. sifted flour
    1/4 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. salt
    2 tsp. baking soda
    1 Tbsp. melted shortening
Preparation
    Pour boiling water over dates and let stand 10 minutes.
