Ingredients

1 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 c. molasses
4 c. flour
2 tsp. soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 tsp. ginger (scant)
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
Preparation

Mix the first 4 ingredients well.
Sift the remaining ingredients; add to first mixture.
Mix thoroughly; chill dough. Roll dough into balls, then roll balls in granulated sugar.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 10 to 15 minutes.
Do not press sugared balls down, as they will puff up and then become flat with a crinkly top.
