To Make Vanilla Crumb: Combine the flour, sugars,

Sift dry ingredients: flour, cocoa, baking soda, sugar and salt.
Add vanilla, mayonnaise and water to dry ingredients and mix.
Put into a 13 x 9-inch pan. Bake at 350\u00b0.

Gradually blend in
Combine first 4 ingredients; stir in butter and whipping cream. Gently stir in bread and raisins. Pour into lightly greased 2-quart deep baking dish. Bake at 375\u00b0 for 50 to 55 minutes, shielding with aluminum foil after 30 minutes to prevent too much browning. Let stand 10 minutes before serving warm with Vanilla Sauce (recipe follows).
Measure cocoa and sugar into a saucepan with about 1/2 cup milk.
Heat over medium heat and whisk until cocoa becomes smooth.
Add remaining milk and heat until steam rises and bubbles form around the edges.
Do not boil.

Put vanilla bean in a clean jar and cover with rum or brandy.
Cap the jar and store in a cool and dark place for at least 6 weeks to let the flavor develop.

Strain the vanilla extract through a cheesecloth lined strainer and into a sealed jar.
Give as a gift with a recipe that uses vanilla or a handbaked gift.
