Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
Mix boiling water, baking soda and add vinegar into unsweetened applesauce.
Add to first eight ingredients and mix well.
Bake approximately 25 minute.

Wrap tightly with plastic wrap and store in a cool dry place for up to 3 weeks. Can be moistened with brandy or wine.
Mix unsweetened applesauce, lard and butter, salt, nutmeats and soda together.
