Place grated soap in a pot.
Cover with water and simmer over medium heat until all soap is melted, stirring occasionally.
Pour into 5 gallon bucket.
Add washing soda and borax.
Add enough hot water to fill the bucket.
Stir (I use a long measuring stick, but any long stick will work).
Let sit overnight to gel.
Use 1 cup per load.
(You can pour this into old detergent containers or leave in the bucket. Please cover with a lid if leaving in the bucket to protect children and pets.).
Mix ingredients and store in a lidded, labeled canister in the laundry room.
To use: Measure out 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup and wash your clothing in warm or cold water.
Use cold water for the rinse cycle.
Mix all ingredients and put in a plastic container with a lid. An old ice cream bucket works well. Its easy to put equal amounts of ingredients in a plastic bag, seal and shake together.
Use 1-2 Tablespoons per load. You can play around with the amount and try to use less or more, whatever gets your close cleanest. It is still way cheaper than Tide!
I use 1 Tablespoon for large loads and wash my clothes for the 18 minute cycle sometimes. This seems to brighten, whiten, and clean clothes pretty well!
