Rinse one bag of split peas. Bring to a boil with 7 cups of water and 1 can of chicken broth. Cover and turn off heat and let sit for 1 hour.
Turn burner back on medium heat and add the ham, (bone if you have it), onions, salt, pepper, marjoram, and bay leaf. Cover and bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to and allow to simmer on low for 1 1/2 hours.
Add carrots, celery, and potatoes. Cover and simmer on low for 1 hour.
Remove the bay leaf and bone (if using) and serve.

Drain water.
Add to beans 2-quarts water, bay leaves, basil, onion (coarsely chopped) and ham bone.
Boil slowly, covered, for 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
Add tomatoes, juice and all.
Simmer about 1/2 hour more, covered.
Remove ham bone, putting back into soup any ham still clinging to bone.
Serve hot.

Simmer vegetable broth and ham bone at least 4 hours.
Remove meat from bone and add back into broth.
Cool soup overnight in refrigerator and in the morning, remove cooled fat on top.
Reheat soup until hot and add your choice of noodles.
I like Kluski noodles.

After The Holidays Ham Bone Soup

Place the ham bone into a large pot and fill with enough water to cover. Bring to a boil and cook for 15 minutes. Add the onion and tomatoes, then stir in the frozen mixed vegetables and potatoes. Simmer for about 20 minutes, then add the macaroni, rice, and chopped ham. Cover and simmer over medium-low heat for 1 1/2 hours. Any ham on the bone should come off easily. Stir in the tomato sauce and let cool for about 15 minutes before serving.

Rachie'S Ham Bone Soup

Place ham bone in a medium stock pot. Fill water to just cover ham bone.
Bring water to a boil and add carrots, celery, potato, onion, pepper, and bay leaves.
Reduce heat to a medium simmer. Simmer 1 hour.
Add lentils.
10 minutes before serving, bring back to a boil and add egg noodles.
5 minutes before serving, add peas.
Serve when noodles are cooked to desired \"doneness\".

Ham Bone Soup

Place the ham bone, onion, tomatoes, kidney beans, potatoes, and green pepper into a 3 quart or larger slow cooker. Dissolve the bouillon cubes in water, and pour into the slow cooker.
Cover, and cook on High until warm. Reduce heat to Low, and continue to cook for 5 to 6 hours.
