Stir just until dry ingredients are moistened.
Cover.
Let stand in cool place for 30 minutes. Pour remaining shortening on griddle or in large skillet.
Heat on medium heat.
Spoon tablespoonfuls of batter onto griddle.
Brown on one side.
Turn.
Brown on other side.
Serve with syrup, jam or honey.
