a standard recipe and may take some \"trial

error\" to perfect this one.
The instructions are written as she told them to me.
She used this basic recipe for chocolate,
coconut
and
other
flavors
as
well.
But my family enjoys it just as a vanilla cream egg custard.
Heat the milk, cream, vanilla pod and seeds in a saucepan over medium heat until just simmering. Remove from heat and cool 10 mins, to infuse. Whisk together egg yolks and sugar in a bowl until pale and creamy, then gradually whisk into warm milk mixture. Return to the pan and stir over low heat 8-10 mins, until mixture coats the back of a wooden spoon. Strain through a fine sieve and discard the vanilla bean. Serve warm or refrigerate, covered, and serve cold.
