Pastitsio - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 1/2 tbsp butter
    1 tbsp oil
    2 None medium onions, finely chopped
    2 1/4 lb ground beef
    1 (13.5 oz) can chopped tomatoes
    2 tbsp tomato puree
    4.5 oz Cheddar cheese, grated
    18 oz large tube pasta, such as rigatoni or penne
    None None FOR THE WHITE SAUCE
    4 1/2 tbsp butter
    5 tbsp flour
    4 cups milk
    2 None eggs, lightly beaten
    2 oz Cheddar cheese, grated
Preparation
    Preheat oven to 375\u00b0F. Grease a large baking dish.
    Melt butter and oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Add onions. Cook for 3-4 mins, stirring, until softened. Add ground beef. Cook for 5 mins, until browned. Add tomatoes and tomato puree. Season. Cook over low heat, partially covered, for 35-40 mins, until ground beef is very tender. Add Cheddar.
    Meanwhile, cook pasta in boiling salted water until al dente. Drain.
    To make the white sauce, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add flour and cook for 2 mins. Gradually whisk in milk. Cook for 5 mins, until sauce is smooth and slightly thickened. Add eggs and Cheddar.
    Transfer 1/2 of the pasta to prepared dish. Cover with 1/2 of the ground beef mixture. Repeat. Top with white sauce. Bake for 30-40 mins, until golden. Serve.
