Apple Charlotte With Salted Butter - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/4 cup sugar + 1 tsp
    2 3/4 lb firm apples, peeled, cored and sliced
    1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
    1 tsp vanilla extract
    5-7 tbsp salted butter
    10 slices white bread, crusts removed
    None None powdered sugar, to serve
    None None fresh berries, to serve
Preparation
    Preheat the oven to 325\u00b0F. Grease and sugar a 7 inch springform pan. Mix 1/4 cup sugar with the apple slices, cinnamon, vanilla extract and 3 1/2 tbsp of butter. Saute the mixture for 10 mins, stirring frequently. Spread the remaining butter on the slices of bread.
    Line the sides of the pan with squares of bread cut to the appropriate size (buttered side facing out). Then line the bottom of the pan with triangular pieces of bread. Pour in 1/2 the apple mixture and put another layer of bread triangles on top. Add the remaining apple mixture and top with the rest of the bread. Sprinkle with 1 tsp of sugar and bake for 30-40 mins until golden.
    Remove the cake from the pan and serve either warm or cold, sprinkled with powdered sugar and decorated with berries.
