Summer Fruit Compote - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 cup light brown sugar
    6 None whole cloves
    2 None star anise
    1 None cinnamon stick
    1 None vanilla bean, halved lengthwise, seeds scraped out
    2 None Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and cut into wedges
    4 None ripe pears, peeled, cored and cut into wedges
    12 oz blackberries (about 3 cups)
Preparation
    Place the brown sugar, cloves, star anise, cinnamon stick and the vanilla bean and its seeds in a large saucepan. Add 1 3/4 cups water, stir well and cook over medium heat until the sugar has dissolved.
    Stir in the apples and pears and simmer over a low heat for 5 mins. Add the blackberries and simmer for 3 mins. Remove from heat; cool for at least 3 hours before serving.
