Building Block Cake - cooking recipe

1 pkg (16 oz) yellow cake mix
1 to 1 1/2 cans white frosting
None None Red, blue and yellow food color
8 None red candy-coated chocolate buttons
8 None blue candy-coated chocolate buttons
8 None yellow candy-coated chocolate buttons
Preparation

Prepare and bake cake mix in 13 x 9-inch baking pan according to package directions. Cool completely. Cut crosswise into 3 rectangles.
Divide frosting evenly among 3 bowls. Using food colors, tint one bowl red, one bowl blue and one bowl yellow.
Place cakes on a cake board. Spread a little red frosting over top and sides of one cake to cover. Repeat with remaining cakes, using a little blue and yellow frosting. Freeze cakes for 30 mins or until frosting is firm.
Spread remaining red, blue and yellow frosting over cakes. Arrange red chocolate buttons on top of red cake. Repeat with remaining blue and yellow chocolate buttons and cakes.
