Pear And Orange Sponge Cake - cooking recipe

3 None eggs, separated
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup 2% milk
1/3 cup self-rising flour, sifted
1/4 cup orange juice
2 tsp orange zest
4 None pears, cored, cut into 8 pieces
None None whipped cream, to serve
Preparation

Preheat oven to 350\u00b0F. Grease a large baking dish with oil.
Whip egg yolks and 1/2 cup sugar until thick and creamy. Transfer to a large bowl. Stir in milk, flour, orange juice and orange zest. Whip egg whites to soft peaks then gradually add remaining sugar, beating well until thick and glossy. Fold into orange mixture.
Arrange pears in prepared dish. Pour orange batter over top. Place in a large baking pan and add enough just-boiled water to come halfway up sides of baking dish. Bake for 35-40 mins, until lightly browned and firm to the touch. Serve with whipped cream.
