Spicy English Steamed Pudding With Chocolate Sauce - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    6 tbsp butter, at room temperature
    1/4 cup brown sugar + 2 tbsp
    1 None egg
    1 cup self-rising flour, sifted
    1 tsp ground ginger
    1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
    1 tbsp milk
    1/2 cup prunes, finely chopped
    1 None small pear, peeled, cored, finely chopped
    3 tsp cocoa powder
    None None chocolate ice cream, to serve
Preparation
    Lightly grease a 1.5 L (2 quart) pudding basin. Line base with parchment paper. Cream 4 1/2 tbsp butter and 1/4 cup sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg until combined. Fold in 1/2 the flour, spices and 1/2 the milk until just combined. Fold in remaining flour and milk. Fold in prunes and pear. Transfer to prepared pudding basin and smooth top.
    Combine 2/3 cup boiling water, remaining butter, sugar and cocoa powder, stirring until butter melts. Pour evenly over pudding mixture. Cover with parchment paper and foil. Place an upturned plate in the bottom of a large saucepan. Rest pudding basin on plate.
    Add enough boiling water to reach halfway up the sides of pudding basin. Cover, bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer for 50 mins, or until a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool for 2 mins then invert onto a plate. Serve immediately with ice cream.
