Ingredients

1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup shortening
1 cup vegetable oil
1 egg, beaten
1 tablespoon milk
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon baking soda
8 ounces chocolate chips
3 3/4 cups flour
Preparation

Mix in order given.
Make cookie-sized balls and distribute on a cookie sheet.
Flatten with a fork, dipping in water between impressions. Aim for a checkerboard on top of each cookie.
Bake on cookie sheet at 350 degrees until brown.
