Crumb Cake - cooking recipe

2 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
3/4 c. shortening
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. buttermilk
1 large egg
Preparation

Preheat oven to 350\u00b0.
Grease an 8-inch square pan.
Mix flour, sugar, salt and spices in a bowl.
Cut in the shortening until the mixture resembles fine crumbs.
Reserve 1/2 cup crumbs for topping.
Stir baking soda into buttermilk and add to crumb mixture along with the egg.
Beat well; pour into pan.
Sprinkle reserved crumbs on top.
Bake for about 35 minutes or until done.
