Chocolate Chip-Date Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. chopped dates
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 c. boiling water
    1 3/4 c. flour
    2 Tbsp. cocoa
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1 c. sugar
    1/2 lb. margarine
    2 eggs
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 c. chopped nuts
    1 (6 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
Preparation
    Combine dates, baking soda and boiling water, set aside.
    Sift flour, cocoa and salt together.
    Cream sugar and margarine until fluffy.
    Add eggs and vanilla and mix well.
    Add flour mixture and date mixture alternately to creamed ingredients.
    Blend well. Spread in greased and floured 9 x 12-inch pan.
    Sprinkle on top of batter the nuts and chocolate chips.
    Bake at 350\u00b0 for 35 to 40 minutes.
    No frosting needed.
