Chocolate Chip Date Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 c. shortening
2 eggs
2 tsp. heaping cocoa
pinch of salt
1 c. hot water
1 c. sugar
1 3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. vanilla
1 c. cut up dates
1 tsp. baking soda
1 pkg. chocolate chips
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Preparation

Cover dates with baking soda and hot water.
Mix shortening, sugar, eggs, vanilla and salt together.
Add flour and liquid from dates, a little at a time, until mixed well.
Add dates and mix. Place cake batter in well buttered 9 x 13-inch pan.
Top with chocolate chips and chopped nuts.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for 45 minutes.
