Grandma'S Butter Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 lb. butter
    1 1/2 c. 4x sugar
    5 c. cake flour
    4 egg yolks (save whites)
Preparation
    Cream butter and sugar well.
    Add egg yolks and flour together a little at a time and keep beating until flour and eggs are blended.
    This makes a stiff dough.
    Roll in little balls.
    Put on ungreased cookie sheets.
    Press with a fork fairly flat.
    Spread with unbeaten egg whites.
    Press on cherries or walnuts.
    Bake about 8 minutes in a 375\u00b0 oven.
