Ingredients

16 lb. (or thereabouts) fresh, small pickling cucumbers (makes about 2 gal.)
1 1/2 boxes salt (plain or pickling)
1 c. alum
1 gal. vinegar
2 Tbsp. pickling spice mix
sugar, as needed
Preparation

Fill a 5-gallon crock 2/3 to 3/4 full of cucumbers.
