Half-Way Bars - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. shortening
    1/2 c. brown sugar
    1/2 c. white sugar
    2 egg yolks
    1 Tbsp. water
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    2 c. sifted flour
    1 (6 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
    2 egg whites
    1 c. brown sugar
Preparation
    Mix first seven ingredients and pat into a well-greased 9 x 13-inch pan.
    Sprinkle with chocolate chips and press them into the mixture.
    Beat egg whites until stiff and then add 1 cup brown sugar.
    Spread this over bottom layer.
    Bake at 325\u00b0 for 35 minutes.
