Banana Pudding - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3/4 c. sugar
    1/3 c. all-purpose flour
    dash of salt
    4 eggs, separated at room temperature
    2 c. milk
    1/2 tsp. vanilla flavoring
    35 to 45 vanilla wafers
    4 medium bananas, sliced
Preparation
    Combine 1/2 cup sugar, flour and salt in top of double boiler. Stir in yolks and milk; blend well.
    Cook, uncovered, over boiling water, stirring constantly until thickened.
    Reduce heat and stir occasionally for 5 minutes.
    Remove from heat; add vanilla flavoring.
    Layer wafers and bananas in bowl and pour custard over them.
    Beat egg whites until stiff; gradually add 1/4 cup sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.
    Spread over top of pudding and bake at 425\u00b0 for 5 minutes or until delicately brown. Serve warm or chilled.
