Ingredients
    2 c. flour
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. salt
    2 Tbsp. shortening
    2/3 c. warm water
1-inch vegetable oil in frying pan
Preparation
Mix flour, baking powder and salt; cut in shortening until mixture resembles fine crumbs.
Sprinkle in water, 1 tablespoon at a time, tossing with fork until all flour is moistened and dough almost cleans side of bowl.
Gather into ball; cover and refrigerate 30 minutes.
Heat oil, divide dough into 10 equal pieces.
Roll each piece into 6-inch circle on lightly floured surface.
Make a hole about 1/2-inch in diameter in each circle. Fry circles, turning once on each side until puffy and golden, about 1 minute each side.
    Serve warm.
