Silver Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1 c. shortening
    1 c. buttermilk
    1/2 tsp. soda
    2 tsp. baking powder
    6 egg whites
    1 tsp. lemon extract
    3 1/2 c. cake flour
Preparation
    Cream shortening.
    Add sugar gradually.
    Sift flour, baking powder and soda three times, then add alternately with buttermilk and flavoring to the creamed mixture.
    Fold in stiffly beaten egg whites.
    Bake in a moderate oven 350\u00b0 in three layers.
    Frost with chocolate frosting.
