Sour Milk Doughnuts - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 eggs
    1 c. sugar
    grated rind of 1/2 lemon
    2 Tbsp. melted shortening
    1 c. sour milk
    4 c. flour
    1 tsp. baking powder
    1/2 tsp. baking soda
    1/2 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. nutmeg
Preparation
    Beat eggs and sugar together; add lemon rind and melted shortening, then milk alternately with sifted dry ingredients, adding a little more flour if necessary to make dough just stiff enough to handle easily.
    Turn onto floured board; pat or roll 3/4-inch thick and cut into doughnuts.
    Cook in deep hot fat. Drain on unglazed paper and when cool, roll in powdered sugar. Makes about three dozen doughnuts.
