Peanut Brittle - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    1 c. light corn syrup (Karo)
    1/2 c. water
    2 c. peanuts (broken, if desired)
    1 Tbsp. butter
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 tsp. soda
Preparation
    In a large saucepan cook sugar, syrup and water until the mixture reaches hard ball stage when dropped in a cup of water. Add peanuts and cook until light brown, then add butter and vanilla and stir until well mixed.
    Add soda and stir well.
    Do not stir too long after adding soda.
    (This is the secret of this candy.) Pour into buttered pan.
