Mother'S Famous Chocolate Cake(From The Files Of Ola Dortch Williams) - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
1 c. cold strong coffee
2 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. sifted flour
1/2 c. cocoa
1/2 tsp. salt
4 eggs
1 tsp. soda
2/3 c. buttermilk

Preparation

Cream sugar and shortening.
Sift flour with cocoa.
Dissolve soda in buttermilk.
To creamed mixture, add coffee, vanilla, flour mixture and salt.
Beat well, then add 4 eggs, one at a time and soda mixture.
Mix well.
Bake in 3 (8-inch) round layer pans at 325\u00b0.
Frost with favorite fudge frosting.
Cake is very moist and brownie-like.
