Luscious Apple Rolls - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 c. sugar
    2 c. water
    1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
    2 Tbsp. butter or margarine
    2 c. all-purpose flour
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1 tsp. salt
    2/3 c. shortening
    1/2 c. milk
    2 1/2 c. shredded cooking apples
Preparation
    Combine first four ingredients in a saucepan.
    Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until sugar dissolves; stir in butter.
    Set aside.
    Combine flour, baking powder and salt; cut shortening into flour mixture with
    a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal.
    Add milk, stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened.
    Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead lightly 4 or 5 times.
    Roll dough to a 12 x 9-inch rectangle.
    Spread apples evenly over dough; roll up jellyroll fashion and beginning with long side, cut into 12 (1-inch) slices.
    Place slices cut side down in a well-greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan.
    Pour sugar syrup around slices.
    Bake at 375\u00b0 for 40 minutes or until golden brown.
    If desired, serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
