Black Walnut Brittle - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. white syrup
    1 c. water
    2 Tbsp. butter
    1 1/2 c. black walnut kernels
    2 c. sugar
    2 tsp. vanilla
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    2 tsp. soda
Preparation
    Combine syrup, sugar and water in large skillet or saucepan. Bring slowly to 230\u00b0 (or soft ball stage without candy thermometer).
    Add walnuts and continue cooking to 300\u00b0. Stirring constantly, remove from heat; add butter, vanilla, soda and salt.
    Stir until well blended.
    Pour into well-buttered cookie sheet.
    When cooled completely, break into pieces.
    Makes 1 1/2 pounds.
