Western Beans - cooking recipe
Ingredients

4 bacon strips, fried lightly and diced
1 large onion, chopped
1/3 c. dry lentils
1 1/3 c. water
2 Tbsp. ketchup
1 tsp. garlic powder
3/4 tsp. chili powder
1/2 tsp. ground cumin
1/4 tsp. dried red pepper
1 bay leaf
1 can whole tomatoes (with liquid), chopped
1 can pinto beans (15 oz.)
1 can kidney beans (16 oz.)
Preparation

Lightly fry bacon in heavy skillet. Add onion. Cook until transparent. Stir in remaining ingredients. Cook over low heat 45 minutes until lentils are done. Remove bay leaf before serving.
