Egg Pastry - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    3 c. sifted plain flour
    1 c. shortening
    1 tsp. vinegar or lemon juice (if for apple pie)
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    1 egg
    1/2 c. ice water (more, if needed)
Preparation
    Sift together flour and salt and cut in shortening.
    Beat egg slightly.
    Add vinegar and water.
    Add gradually to dry ingredients.
    Work just enough to hold together for pie.
    Work more for dumplings.
    Roll and cut.
