Edith Harris' Slaw - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    8 c. shredded cabbage
    2 carrots, finely chopped
    1 bell pepper, finely chopped
    1/2 c. chopped onion
    3/4 c. cold water
    1 envelope plain gelatin
    2/3 c. sugar
    2/3 c. white vinegar
    2 tsp. celery seed
    1 1/2 tsp. salt
    2/3 c. salad oil
Preparation
    Sprinkle 1/2 cup cold water over vegetables.
    Soften gelatin with remaining 1/4 cup cold water.
    Mix sugar, vinegar, celery seed and salt in a pan and bring to a boil.
    Stir in softened gelatin.
    Cook until slightly thickened.
    Gradually beat in oil. Drain vegetables and mix lightly with dressing.
    Cover and refrigerate.
    Serves 10.
