Empanadas - cooking recipe

4 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. salt
1 c. plus 2 Tbsp. shortening
3/4 c. cold beer
Sweet Potato Filling
1/2 c. sugar
2 tsp. ground cinnamon
Preparation

Combine flour and salt; cut in shortening until mixture resembles coarse meal.
Stir in beer with a fork until well blended.
Roll dough into 1/8-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface.
Using about a 5-inch saucer to measure, cut out circles with a knife.
Place a rounded tablespoon of potato mixture in center of each circle; moisten edges with water and seal with a fork.
Place empanadas on a cookie sheet and bake at 400\u00b0 for 15 to 20 minutes.
Combine sugar and cinnamon; sprinkle over hot empanadas.
