Chocolate Chip Date Nut Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    8 oz. pkg. dates, cut up
    1 c. boiling water
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 1/2 c. flour
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1/2 c. chopped nuts
    1 c. sugar
    1/2 c. margarine
    2 eggs, creamed
    salt
    1 (6 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
Preparation
    Combine dates, boiling water and soda.
    Let soak.
    Combine sugar, margarine and eggs in mixer and blend well.
    Drain liquid off dates and add liquid to sugar and egg mixture, alternating with flour and salt.
    Stir dates in last.
    Pour in 9 x 13 x 2-inch greased pan.
    Sprinkle chocolate chips and chopped nuts over batter followed by a sprinkling of granulated sugar.
    Bake 30 to 35 minutes at 350\u00b0.
    Cut in small squares or cut larger squares and top with ice cream or Cool Whip.
