Butterscotch Icing - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
    2 Tbsp. butter
    1/4 c. milk
    1 Tbsp. light corn syrup
    1/4 c. shortening
    1/4 tsp. salt
    2 c. sifted confectioners sugar (xxx kind)
    3 Tbsp. hot milk
Preparation
    Combine the shortening, salt and xxx sugar into a large bowl, adding the sugar gradually and creaming well.
    Put aside.
    Combine brown sugar, butter, 1/4 cup milk and corn syrup in a saucepan and cook until a small amount forms a hard ball in cold water (250\u00b0), stirring constantly after the mixture starts to boil.
    Quickly heat 3 tablespoons milk and add to the first mixture, then gradually pour in the cooked mixture.
    Beat until thick and smooth enough to spread on 2 (8-inch) cakes or 1 (10-inch) loaf cake. Frost quickly as this thickens rapidly.
    A hot spreader helps.
