Christmas Fruit Cookies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    4 c. sifted all-purpose flour
    1 c. vegetable shortening
    2 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
    2 c. mixed candied fruit
    2 eggs
    1 c. pecans
    1 c. candied cherries
    2 c. chopped dates
    1 tsp. soda
    1 tsp. salt
    2/3 c. buttermilk
Preparation
    Sift flour and measure.
    Sift again with soda and salt.
    Cream shortening; add sugar and eggs.
    Beat until light and fluffy.
    Add buttermilk and flour.
    Add chopped fruits and chopped nuts.
    Chill dough for several hours.
    Drop by teaspoon about 2 inches apart onto slightly greased cookie sheet.
    Bake at moderate heat (350\u00b0) for 8 to 10 minutes.
