Poor Man'S Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients

1 c. sugar
1 c. water
1 1/2 c. raisins
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. cloves
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. baking powder
2 c. flour
1 tsp. soda

Preparation

Grease and flour cake pan.
Combine first 9 ingredients and boil for 3 minutes.
Cool.
When cool, add 1 teaspoon baking powder sifted with 2 cups flour.
Last, add 1 teaspoon soda dissolved in a small amount of hot water.
Bake at 350\u00b0 for about 1 hour or until a toothpick comes out clean when inserted in cake. \"Does nicely in a tube pan.\"
