    1 envelope onion soup mix
    1 c. water
    1/2 tsp. dried basil leaves
    1/4 tsp. coarsely ground black pepper
    1 lb. beef round steak (1-inch thick), fat trimmed
    1 (4.5 oz.) jar sliced mushrooms, drained
