Hot Spiced Punch - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. firmly packed brown sugar
    1 c. water
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
    1/4 tsp. nutmeg
    1/2 tsp. ground cloves
    1/4 tsp. allspice
    2 (16 oz.) cans jellied cranberry sauce
    3 1/2 c. water
    6 c. apple juice
    butter
Preparation
    Combine sugar, 1 cup water, salt and spices in a large container.
    Heat to boiling, reduce heat and simmer.
    Combine cranberry sauce and 3 1/2 cups water; mix well.
    Add to sugar syrup with apple juice.
    Heat to just below simmering.
    Pour hot punch in mugs or cups and dot with a bit of butter.
    Makes about 1 gallon.
