Strawberry Shortcake - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 c. flour
4 egg whites
3 tsp. baking powder
few grains of salt
1 c. sweet milk
1 c. sugar
4 egg whites
Preparation

Mix first 7 ingredients for cake as you would cake batter. Spread batter in greased baking pan.
Beat egg whites for topping; add sugar (last 2 ingredients).
When stiff, spread smoothly over top of cake batter.
Baking all at once, bake at 350\u00b0 for about 30 minutes or until brown on top and bottom.
This crisp topping keeps cake from getting soggy.
Cut in squares and serve with sweetened berries or other fruits.
