Old Fashioned Beef Stew - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 Tbsp. fat
    2 lb. beef chuck, cut into 1 1/2-inch cubes
    2 c. boiling water
    1 tsp. Worcestershire
    1 clove garlic
    1 medium onion, chopped
    1 or 2 bay leaves
    1 Tbsp. salt
    1 tsp. sugar
    1/2 tsp. pepper
    1/2 tsp. paprika
    dash of allspice or cloves
    6 carrots
    1 lb. (18 to 24) small white onions
Preparation
    Thoroughly brown meat on all sides in hot fat, turning often. Add boiling water, Worcestershire sauce, garlic, onion, bay leaves and seasonings.
    Cover and simmer (don't boil) for 1 1/2 hours, stirring occasionally.
    Remove bay leaves and garlic clove.
    Add carrots and onions.
    You may also add cubed potatoes if you wish. Cook covered another 30 minutes or until vegetables are done. Remove meat and vegetables and thicken liquid for gravy.
    Makes 6 to 8 servings.
