Cherry Squares - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 sticks margarine
    2 eggs
    2 c. flour
    1/2 c. nuts (optional)
    1 c. sugar
    1 tsp. vanilla
    1 tsp. baking soda
    1 can cherries
Preparation
    Beat butter and sugar until creamy.
    Add eggs; beat until light and fluffy.
    Add vanilla, nuts and dry ingredients.
    Beat for 3 minutes.
    Spread 2/3 of mixture in 9 x 13-inch pan.
    Spread cherries over batter.
    Spread the rest of the batter into 5 little patches; patches will spread while baking.
