"The Thing" - cooking recipe
Ingredients

1 cake yeast, softened in 1/4 c. lukewarm water
1/2 c. milk
1/4 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
3 1/2 c. flour
1/4 c. melted shortening
1/2 c. melted shortening
1 c. brown sugar, mixed with 1 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. finely chopped nuts
1 c. raisins
Preparation

Well grease a 9-inch tube pan.
Roll each ball into shortening, then sugar, then nuts and put a layer into tube pan, so they barely touch.
Sprinkle 1/2 the raisins on top, then put another layer of balls.
Sprinkle rest of raisins on top.
Cover and let rise until light, about 45 minutes.
Bake in 350\u00b0 oven for 40 to 45 minutes. Break or cut into pieces for serving.
