Spareribs Barbecued In Soulful Sauce - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. water
    1/2 c. prepared mustard
    5 lb. fresh spareribs
    2 onions, quartered
    5 garlic cloves, crushed
    2 Tbsp. brown sugar
    1 c. tomato catsup
    2 Tbsp. pepper sauce
    1 tsp. paprika
    2 Tbsp. hickory salt
    2 Tbsp. chili powder
    juice and grated rind of lemon
    2 Tbsp. butter or bacon fat
    1 can tomato sauce
    1 tsp. sweet basil
    1 tsp. celery seed
    1 tsp. thyme
    1 tsp. cumin seed
    salt, pepper and paprika to taste
Preparation
    Wipe ribs with clean, damp cloth; cut into pieces for individual servings.
    Sprinkle with salt, pepper and paprika; set aside.
    Place all other ingredients, except ribs, in a large frying pan.
    Simmer for 20 to 30 minutes; cool.
    Place ribs in a large, shallow flat dish; marinate well with sauce on both sides. Cover; store in refrigerator for several hours.
    Cook until well done, basting occasionally.
