Red Velvet Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 1/2 cups flour, (cake flour if on hand)
    2 cups sugar
    1 tsp. white vinegar
    1 cup buttermilk
    1 oz. red food coloring
    1 tsp. soda
    1 cup vegetable oil (buttery flavored; If not using buttery flavored oil, add 1 tsp. butter flavoring)
    1 tsp. salt
    3 eggs
Preparation
    Cream the sugar, shortening and eggs together thoroughly. Combine the buttermilk and vinegar in a cup.
    Combine the dry ingredients in a large sifter.
    Add the sifted dry ingredients alternately with the milk.
    Add food coloring and flavoring.
    Bake in two 9 inch cake pans which have been greased and waxed-paper-lined on the bottom.
    Bake at 300 degrees for about 40 minutes or until done.
    Frost with cream cheese icing.
    Nuts may be put right in icing or used to decorate the sides of the cake.
