Onions Au Gratin - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    2 lb. small onions or 3 cans, drained
    4 Tbsp. butter or margarine
    4 Tbsp. flour
    2 1/2 c. milk
    3/4 tsp. salt
    1/4 tsp. white pepper
    3/4 c. grated American cheese
Preparation
    If using fresh onions, parboil for 10 minutes; drain and place in au gratin dish. Melt butter or margarine; stir in flour and mix until smooth.
    Stir in milk, salt and pepper.
    Stir constantly. Cook until thick; remove from heat and add grated cheese.
    Stir until cheese is melted.
    Pour over onions.
    Bake in a 350\u00b0 oven for 45 minutes or until lightly brown and bubbly.
