Pea And Ham Soup - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. Chopped onion
    1-2 Cloves crushed garlic
    1 tsp. Butter
    1 c. Green split peas
    1 qt. Chicken stock
    Dash of pepper
    1 Bay leaf
    2 Small carrots, peeled and diced
    2 Medium potatoes, peeled and diced
    1 c. Diced cooked ham
Preparation
    In a large saucepan, saute the onions and garlic in the butter until tender, about 5 minutes. Add peas, stock, bay leaf and pepper. Heat to boiling and reduce heat. Add ham, cover and simmer for about two hours, stirring occasionally. Add carrots and potatoes, cover and simmer for a further 20-30 minutes. Serve with fresh bread.
