Spicy Hush Puppies - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. cornmeal (self-rising)
    1/2 c. flour (self-rising)
    1 can whole tomatoes, drained and chopped
    1 small onion, chopped
    1/4 c. chopped green pepper
    1/4 tsp. pepper
    1/4 tsp. crushed red pepper
    1/8 tsp. garlic powder
    1/4 tsp. salt
    1/8 tsp. baking powder
    1 egg, beaten
    1/2 c. vegetable oil
Preparation
    Combine all ingredients until dry ingredients are moistened. Drop batter by tablespoonfuls into deep, hot oil, fry only a few at a time, turning once, 3 to 5 minutes or until hush puppies are golden brown.
    Drain on paper towels.
    Yields about 1 1/2 dozen.
