Pumpernickler(Cookies) - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1 c. butter
    1 c. sugar
    2 eggs
    grated rind of 1 lemon
    1 Tbsp. lemon juice
    3 or 3 1/4 c. flour
    2 rounded tsp. baking powder
Preparation
    Mix ingredients in order given.
    Make into 4 rolls and then flatten out about 3-inches wide.
    Brush on cream or egg white, mixed with a little water.
    Sprinkle with sugar and chopped nuts. Bake 20 minutes in a 350\u00b0 oven until set.
    Take out and cut in slices 1/2 or 3/4-inch wide.
    Return to oven and bake until crisp in a 300\u00b0 oven.
    Makes lots of cookies and keeps well.
