Gingerbread Cake - cooking recipe

Ingredients
    1/2 c. shortening
    1/2 c. sugar
    1 egg
    1/2 c. light molasses
    1 1/2 c. flour
    3/4 tsp. salt
    3/4 tsp. soda
    1/2 tsp. ginger
    1/2 tsp. cinnamon
    1/2 c. boiling water
Preparation
    Stir shortening to soften.
    Gradually add sugar, creaming until light and fluffy.
    Add the egg and molasses; beat thoroughly.
    Mix together dry ingredients.
    Add to molasses mixture alternately with the boiling water.
    Beat after each addition.
    Bake in greased 8 x 8 x 2-inch pan in moderate oven at 350\u00b0 for about 35 to 40 minutes.
    Serve warm; top with cream (whipped cream, Cool Whip or Dream Whip may be used).
